Reiyukai Canada is a local participant in the Shoreline Cleanup sponsored by TD Bank and Vancouver Aquarium. Canadians have been helping to clean Canada’s shorelines since 1994 when Vancouver Aquarium conducted its first shoreline cleanup. The goal of this project is to cleanup man-made debris that is deliberately or thoughtlessly mishandled. As one of their brochures says, “Every piece of litter has a person’s face behind it”.
Therefore, as Reiyukai Canada is also concerned about the global and national environmental issues, our organisation and its volunteer members have participated and helped cleanup our shoreline since 2006.
Each year, the most common trash found are cigarette buds. We would also find paper/plastic utencils, cups, plates, containers, a shoe, diapers, pieces of clothes, broken plastic toys, bottles and bottle caps, cans, and many other items.
Reiyukai Canada believes that, each one of us can make a difference, whether it is in helping people or the environment. We are certainly proud to take part in this event that is held throughout Canada.
For that reason, we invite our members and friends to join us again to clean our city from all man-made waste.
