Whenever the new season starts and leaves behind the wonderful summer weather, most of us start to complain about the rain or cold, but at the end, we go back to a heated home and have a warm meal. And that is not something all Vancouverites can do. That is why for the last two years Reiyukai Canada has been successfully organising ‘FOOD BANK’ during the fall/ winter period.
A donation box is commonly set at our Reiyukai Centre. Members and non-members bring anything that they could spare and share: canned (like soup or tuna) or dry food (like pasta or crackers), or any other food that cannot be spoiled before we give it out during or after the Christmas/ New Year period.
All the donated food goes to Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and “Drop-in Living Centre” where we hold our regular Soup Kitchen events. The latter one uses our donations to assist people in need - Members who are not able, because of their physical or mental state, to regularly come to the drop-in centre and get their meals. They call this an ’outreach program’.
Food Bank for the Year 2010 will commence on November 01, and will end on December 24. Food will be distributed in January or February 2011.
Reiyukai Canada thanks all Food Bank supporters in advance. By putting Reiyukai philosophy in practice we, indeed, can make this world a better place for all human beings!

Each year, Food Bank starts on Nov 01, and ends just before Christmas.

We deliver all the donated food in January of the next year. Food is taken to Drop-in Living Room Centre on Powell Street.
